Happysad revisited: Amen

Another really old one, which illustrates nicely how different my style of drawing was at the beginning. I think this is an important one because it summarizes the whole premise of Happysad probably better than any other cartoon I’ve made.

The reason

There you go: end of story. Or is it?

  1. this is the cartoon, which I saw and loved immediately Happysad :)
(and not exacly nice memory conects with it:( – but! love for HappYSad cartoons is stronger :) )

  2. This is perhaps my favorite Happysad cartoon–maybe tied with a few other great comics. I just love, as you said, how well it sums up the premise of the series. I think we’ve all had the (dis)pleasure of understanding the same harsh reality that our squiggly protagonist learns here.

    Beautiful work, Jeroen.

  3. This is my favorite one. So was that last one. And the one before it. Not to mention the ten most recent ones. And probably a few before that too…

Screw it, all of ‘em are my favorite.

  4. The drawing style is different. Although the characters are so simple drawn, you did walk (I mean draw :D) some miles before getting to the actual style.
It’s like with Garfield, the first comics are so differently drawn.

You know what always impressed me about HappySad? Your ability to draw 2 simple points, like the eyes in the 4th part. And these 2 tiny dots describe so thoroughly the emotion… that’s incredible. I love the dialog and the ideas of HS, they’d be wonderful even by themselves, but the cartoons… they give substance. They’re like a support of your ideas that actually give substance to the idea.

English isn’t my mother tongue, I’m sorry if I’m not clear enough and wrote too much.

I just wanted to tell you how much I appreciate both your ideas/ways to share your life experiences and your drawing abilities…
